I don't like satay - I don't like peanut sauce and I would much prefer the meat plain, without that horrible sweet marinade. No, I'm a curry person through and through.

I have a nudge all posters here are locals. I do not really think expats can describe that detail about their choice of hawker food

Funny, now you list these dishes I realise I have tried many of them but of course they would vary hugely depending on where you buy. Not keen to try the kway chap! Thanks guys. More recommendations (name and description would be nice so I can learn them) and places to try the dishes most welcome.

I am not local and I can describe in detail my favorite hawker food. Even have fav stalls. Love the sauce at the roti prada stall at Ghim Moh near Buona Vista MRT (theres only one stall, it's near the wet market). The roti is too, dense and oily for me like other roti better. Love flaky roti, which hawker has the best? Cheese Roti Prada on Clementi near PSA? ? (open 24/7) Singin in the Rain

Yesterday we wen't to this Deutsche Cantonese something restaurant right besides the Fairprice at Siglap. Don't know why they call themselves "Deutsche" but I had a fantastic Chicken wings with dates soup. A kind of special new offer now. Never tried this before. Recommended.
Guten Appetit! Mac

It might be because they want to present themselves as 'fusion food' so they can charge more? Do they indeed sell fusion food? I will have to check it out!
