I play safe when in Hawker centres and order kway teow, satay, carrot cake, chicken rice etc but there is so much more out there. I do try and ask what the dishes are but the stall seller and I often don't share a language. What are your favourites? What am I missing?

I love the dry mince pork noodle with Chili, probably my favourite at the moment. Very good stand at Hong Lim where they give bits of crispy fatty pork to sprinkle over too. Very close to THE best Curry puff stand I know too....

I find you can't go wrong with the Korean stalls. There's a good one at GWCity and another at Tanglin Mall. I also like pretty much everything at the Muslim Indian stalls. I got fed up with the veggies always tasting of fish in the Malay or Indonesian food stalls. There's only so much Ikan Bilis I can handle!

There was this place with these curry puffs which were just mouth watering. Don't let me think about them or I will dehidrate. Then the guy left...

And the BEST Roti Prata is in the bottom of the HDB on Sin Ming Drive, (Upper Thomson Rd end) had it for dinner tonight, and most likely for breakfast over the weekend too! The recently refurbished Roti Prata House on Upper Thomson is a very very close second place. Mmmmmmm I also like Yong Tau Foo, that sweet sauce is so nice. I'll also second that mince pork and hand made noodles. Very tasty

Bak ku teh(a herbal pork soup) was one of my favourites,along with duck rice(esp.with yam rice)hokkien noodles,wan tan mee and for dessert,cold cheng teng!Yum!Mustn't forget the fresh sugarcane juice with lemon.My husband's fav. hawker dish-kuay chap which i couldn't stomach(lol) surprisingly...

My faves are the Indian stalls. Anything with curry. I like the claypot chicken curries too. Murtabak and roti prata if there is no main Indian stall.
the east coast lagoon hawker centre does fantastic curry puffs. there is a stall there which sells just curry puffs - $1 each, they're well tasty.

Mee pok Laksa Teochew porridge Hokkien mee
Shiok, my top fave too - rojak with extra chilli, the best is to be had at William's stall in Far East Plaza, level 5. The stall is in a coffeeshop called Cahaya; Mrs William runs the fruit-and-juice stall cheek by jowl with Mister.

Why hasn't anyone mentioned satay? It's the ALL favourite of expats and locals!
Beef, chicken, pork, mutton meat cut into bite size chunks and skewered into a stick and then barbequed. The dip is a mixture of peanut sauce of some mild spices. The Malay satays are sweeter than the Chinese versions.

Slam dunk, sounds good, what is the dry mince pork noodle with chilli called...other than dry mince pork noodle with chilli? It's called Bak Cho Mee in hokkien. The authentic ones uses dark vinegar as an ingredient.
