Just go to one of those Philippine shops in LP - they are small shops on higher floors carrying Philippine products. Or go there on Sunday and ask any of the maids to show you where to buy tawas...
Yeah, Mustafas is fun... They have new wing, which faces Serangoon road, I usually buy there all the toothpaste, perfume, shaver... stuff that is also available on the first floor. Much less squeezing thru the aisles. My tip is to take few hours during weekdays and just browse, so you learn where which selection is. When I get few things I just leave them in the shopping basket in a quiet corner and then collect all my purchases and pay in the clothes section. Least people there, and the elevator from there goes to the exit on first floor. I am probably making it too confusing, just take your time to check it out. Its really worth the hassle. I actually love going there, my basmati rice is almost finished so it's time to go again...

thanks for the tip on mustafa. I kinda picked up the part abt leaving your basket in one corner frm observing the other ppl there the other day but guess wat?? it got removed and all the items put back (at least that's wat I think they did).
so yea... that kinda put me and the wifey off a little bit. haha. but yea I can see why its so crowded with the prices and everything under one roof.
btw, just a tip about cheap prices (may not be new but hey my 2 little cents) swanston pharmacy down in chinatown has got really good selections and cheap prices. yes even cheaper than mustafa. they have 2 outlets above the food court in people's park. the larger one carries all sorts of high end stuff as well.
happy shopping!

Just bought the TAWAS thingie yesterday in Lucky Plaza. Second floor, 2 shops facing the open space, Filipino products, $2,50 in clear plastic , but it is a real crystal kind of shape. Not round shape, 3 pcs in bag. If you live in the East you can have one Thanks for the tip on the pharmacy, always on lookout for good priced places. Actually that could be a new thread... Anyway I buy my coffee in the Victoria Street wholesale market. Freshly ground Arabica 19 per kg. So that's my thrifty tip!

yes! ;D the product's Filipino name is TAWAS... Not the shop's name. Well, I think this kind is even more "real" as it really looks like broken off crystals... so perhaps not so nice on the skin as a smooth stick? I think it looks lovely in the bathroom though, this real crystal look. Anyway it is ALUM! I remember back in Europe as a kid, we would always go to swimm in a lake which was an old alum quarry. there was not one living thing inside the lake - no fish, bugs and when you had a scratch it would sort of close very fast. my father had a piece of stone from the lake and when he cut himself shaving, he would put the stone on the cut and it closed. Will give the smaller crystal from lucky plaza to my husband...

Mustafa isn't the cheapest for everything any more. I go there when I need something and I haven't been able to buy it during the day, and so I pop in for it. And Indian stuff I need too.
