It's funny how the Italians are reacting to the latest mafia-corruption scandal of Italia soccer: The national side's World Cup triumph in a penalty shoot-out against France has sparked calls for leniency.
"Let's do what they did in ancient Rome: whoever has given us prestige and dignity should be treated differently, as one who has done something exemplary," said Italy's Justice Minister Clemente Mastella.
Former prime minister Silvio Berlusconi, owner of AC Milan, argued: "We can't penalise the fans. The individuals should be punished, not the clubs.
"Let's leave the players and the fans out of it and hit those who are really responsible, the executives and the referees.
"But with a serious and fair trial, different to what we are witnessing.
"I am against relegation and I don't speak just as president of Milan.
"Should Juve be relegated it would hinder other clubs that would lose the revenue they take when they play against a team like Juventus.
"One also has to think of the damage this would create to sponsors and televisions companies that have signed contracts with these clubs." If you have the justice minister and the former prime minister that says that corruption is fine and the law shouldn't be enforced, we are going in the right direction. In other words: oh well, everybody knows we Italians are mafiosi, so, why bother?Italy will never change...

They both sucked, Italy and France. It was a sh!t final. A disappointment to the Cup and the fans who deserved to see two better teams. What a yawn.

mafioso numero uno, nice try. people are entitled to say whatever they want. Your post is the world's greatest proof of reincarnation; no one could get that dumb in just one lifetime. Why is that? Come on! A Minister of Justice who says "whoever has given us prestige and dignity should be treated differently" So the law should not be the same for everybody? If you agree with this you need to GET A GRIP ON YOURSELF! La giustizia è cieca. Ti ricordi cosa ti hanno detto in scuola elementare?? And no, the Minister of Justice has not the right to say that some people are above the law!!

sei un taditore della patria. Dovresti diffenderla invece di fare il solito Italiano criticone e supino. Ti avrei perdonato se tu fossi straniero. Ma sei evidentemente un Italiano. Vergogna!!!! Italy is not what you say. Thsi is an exageration, the usual exagerations to make my country look bad. Shame on you . You must defend your country no matter what!

Sei tu che dovresti vergognarti! Ci sono molte cose in Italia che non vanno bene, e quelle cose vanno cambiate, non difese!!! I only quoted the Minister of Justice. It is she who said that the law should not be the same for everybody, not me! The Minister of Justice said so!!!! The MINISTER OF JUSTICE!!!! Halloooooo? No wonder all Italian politicians are mafiosi!

I am not spreading any stereotypes. I am quoting the minister of justice. QUOTING!!! OK? Oh, maybe you refer to my Italian politicians - mafiosi? What about Salvatore Lima, notorious mafioso? "In the final report of the first Italian Antimafia Commission (1963-1976) Lima was described as one of the pillars of Mafia power in Palermo." And what about Giulio Andreotti, ntorious mafioso? "He has been accused of having Mafia contacts, and was eventually convicted, even though he avoided formal conviction because of statutory limitations." And what about Berlusconi, notorious mafioso? " Italian supergrass Antonino Giuffre has accused Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi of meeting Mafia bosses during the 1980s at the trial of a senator in Sicily." Mamma mia! Putting your head under the sand doesn't make the mafia get away! Rivolvi i problemi invece di guardare dall'altra parte!

It's clearly an action of a thug in the football field. How fitting indeed that his action is supported by so many thugs in this thread.
It's a sorry sight to see the game of football tarnished by the action of a thug on the field and the support of all the thugs in the population of various countries - his fanatic fans. Maybe fans are, by definition, fanatics - I dunno.
The Bengal wild tiger must be of the highest grace, strength and beauty - but I'll surely stay well clear of it.

Don, did you start that petition? And did you start that rumore?
I would rather start a petition to withdraw the World Cup to people who keep diving and insulting other players.

We are world champions. And for the next four years we are going to remind the french about it at any occasions. We already started at Magny-Cours with Ferrari beating renault.
So they learn to be less arrogant and pompous

Are they arrogant and pompous?
I always find them very friendly. Maybe you heard that from English or Americans? They keep saying that French are ostentatious. Personally I find English people ostentatious, boastful, chichi, conspicuous, crass, dashing, duded up, egotistic, flatulent, flaunted, gaudy, highfaluting, jaunty, peapen1sy, pompous, and pretentious. Not the French.
And I am neither French nor English or American.
