I'm quite partial to beautiful horses that can run fast. Now, if you're talking about a horse head in my bed... that's a different story ;-))

Sorry, been busy giving interviews left right and center. Suddenly media corp and company realise there are actually Italians leaving in Singapore....Gosh I don't want to be desrespectful here, but I am amazed by the level of ignorance about my country....Our fault I guess.... So where were we? Oh yes, the horse...calamity, if you liked horses I could have arranged for a nasty wake up Monday morning... What can I tell you? The final is going to be between two teams who know each other well, France has tremendous talents. Zidane , Henry, Makelele, so tough game, not many goals, and with an argentinian ref. I think the game will be flowing well.

Well today the straits times apologised to Italy and Italians! About time. Even though their reply to our Ambassador's letter was weak, as usual. Besides since when do you have freedom of opinion in Singapore?

Oh yes, the horse...calamity, if you liked horses I could have arranged for a nasty wake up Monday morning... hey, you're supposed to make me an offer i can't refuse, not an offer i can and will refuse! to be honest, italy looks more likely to win the world cup. most people have been ignoring them from the start. talking about horses, they have been the dark horses in this tournament. after reading your ambassador's letter to the strait jacket don, i was wondering if you're the man himself. it'd be cool to have a diplomat on this board. bragging rights. haha. nevertheless i guess we'll see you in the news huh? let's see which one of the italians they interview is most likely to be you. i'm guessing the whiny one ;D

*Groannnn...* it was such a torture forcing myself to stay up to watch the Germany vs Portugal game. It was my first 'successful' attempt after failing to stay awake for the other games. I woke up at 11 this morning, feeling like I could sleep for another 12 hours. My question is for those of you who have a 9 to 5 workday, how do you manage to stay bright-eyed to watch the World Cup matches Live and still go to work the next day? I know there are many who faithfully follow each and every match Live. Oh well...the finals is a must-see and at least the game is an hour earlier. *Yawn*

here's the bad news. i don't think tonight's match is going to be one hour earlier. it's just that they have an hour of closing ceremony before the match proper.
about your question, it's once every four years. the whole world (not really but you know what i mean) is going through the same thing. i only really stay up for the final stages of the tournament.
i masquerade my way at work the following day but so does a lot of other people. i take comfort in that. it's understood.
and coffee. strong. not starbucks or coffeebean's. three or four mugs.

Easy to stay awake and watch the matches lah! Was first a couple of weeks in Europe (+1 hour only from Germany) and watched them on a decent time. Then flew back here and, thanks to the time difference, it's not so hard. Getting harder by the match but only one more to go. The ultimate coffee craving kicks in the next day at work. Was hoping to have a trip to Germany so that I could be there on time to watch Germany win the final but that didn't happen. Both the victory and the trip were rescheduled ;D Should have some business in Italy instead. Hey Don, about those hard to resist offers...

italy won it, as expected. they showed more hunger. they were men possessed.
france didn't deserve it. they were rubbish and were lucky to drag the match that long. it was supposed to be zidane's swansong but he obviously couldn't wait ten minutes. he just HAD to headbutt materazzi in the dying minutes. he'll regret that till the day he dies.
congratulations italy and don corleone!

!!! Viva Italia !!!
Now, who cares about the winner. Much more interesting is the question of what Materazzi said to Zidane to make him loose his cool like that. What a way to end a career!

Well done Italy! They kept their cool and got there in the end. Just wonder what the hell possessed Zizou to behave like that? Shades of Cantona kicking that fan in the Man Utd stands.
OK, normal programming resumes for the next four years. Back to work now. Got bills to pay. Chop-chop!

I missed the first half. I got up and turned on the TV and wondered why there wasn't that 5 minute run-up to the game with the parade of players and the anthems. Instead the channel was showing highlights - I thought highlights from previous games because - oh, look at that old Zidane free-kick from France-Portugal that got them through...oh no, wait... look closer, that's another Zidane free kick, from this very final with Italy! Chagrined that I missed the first half - naively assumed the same start time - but also that France's last two goals in the tourny had to be referee-awarded free kicks?? I think they were lucky to get this far in the tourny. The second-half I was bored to tears. I still kept wishing Argentina or someone more deserving could have played Italy. The only interesting thing was the Zidane drama. I'm always sorry if a final has to go into penalty kicks, though I was glad Italy won. Did you see them descend into a bunch of high school kids after the win? Incredible... Nevertheless it was a great tournament. I'm at a loss of what to do now that it's ended! Hail soccer the great uniter!

You mean we have to start sleeping at night now? How pathetic is that! Another two years and the European World Championships will be there, that's going to be like an instant reply to the finals of these games

Yes, a shame it was a final (and semi-final) with only Europeans. I would have preferred south-American-European finals, and loved a African-south American-European finals! Maybe in 4 years???

Oooooooo what a fantastic match the World Cup Finals was!!! Right from the start to the PSO, it was like all hell ran loose with the guys from Italy and France. There were several heart-stopping moments when bodies and limbs were willing to bear serious injuries just so the ball could be overtaken from the opponent. Phew! To be fair, both teams showed they wanted to win. There was determination in all the players' faces and you could see their eyes were on the beautiful ball. I noticed no balls were shot and grabbed by eagerly waiting fans at the stands. Those balls would have fetched a lot of money for the lucky owner. Coming back to the match.... I felt the first goal, a penalty kick, was not the result of a foul. I believe you guys would have seen from the slow-motion replays it was definitely a cleverly concorted act. To me that spells the end of France. To have to resort to cheating does not auger well for the team and it's only the start of the game! Tsk! Tsk! Zidane was such a letdown with his unnecessary vicious attack on Matezarri. The speculations as to why he did it, him being the captain and the finals being his last curtain call, was Matezarri cussed him in Italian and everyone knows Zidane knows the language. It must be a vulgar cuss with profanity words used for Zidane to lose his cool. What a shame! He fell for the dirtiest trick in the world and he must be butting his head in the changing room after he was sent off. Just a split second reaction was all it took to bring the pride and joy of France to lose all the adoration of fans and adulations of the media! Although the ten men French team held on right till Penalty Shootout, the loss of their captain would have brought the team's morale down a couple of notches. Italy won because the No 20 guy from the French team had last minute jitters just when he was going to kick the ball into the goalpost. Mama mia.... that was really unfortunate indeed! There will be a winner and there will be a loser and I believe no one likes to lose. Has anyone heard the Italian restaurants are serving free spaghetti today?

World Cup suffers at hands of the winners By Malcolm Moore in Rome
(Filed: 14/07/2006)
The World Cup trophy has been in Italy's hands for only a few days but it appears already to have been broken.
Fabio Cannavaro kisses the World Cup trophy
Pictures on the front page of the Italian newspaper Il Messaggero showed Fabio Cannavaro, Italy's captain, staring at the trophy in dismay and then holding up what appears to be a piece of green malachite that has broken off its base.
Cannavaro was sitting on the Italian team bus on his way to visit Gianluca Pessotto, the former Juventus player who is in hospital in Turin after falling from the roof of the club's offices during the tournament.
The piece may have come off the trophy on the bus but, according to Il Messaggero, was later glued on.
Cannavaro admitted that he slept with the trophy on the night of winning the final against France. The trophy was created by Silvio Gazzaniga, an Italian artist, for the 1974 World Cup. It shows two athletes spiralling out from the base to hold the world in their hands.
The trophy is 14 inches high and made of solid 18 carat gold. There are two layers of malachite on the base, which has room for 17 plaques to display the names of the winners. The trophy is not due to be replaced until at least 2038, when the plaques run out.
The winners of the World Cup are entitled to hold on to the trophy until the following tournament, although the trophy remains the property of FIFA.

The winners of the World Cup are entitled to hold on to the trophy until the following tournament, although the trophy remains the property of FIFA. I didn't know that. I thought they keep it and every winner gets a new one. Anyway typical of Italians to break stuff. If you want something not to work, ask an Italian to do it.
