but why did the brithish team win?? they suck! all they can do is throwing the ball away from them! I wisth Paraguay had won! I hope britain will lose alll the other gaims. They can''t play any socker.. socker doesn't consist in kicking away the balll but in lovng it and smoggeling it and giving us a good show, like the brazilians are giving us. Not of kicking it and hating it like the british are hiowinguus. May the brasilians win the cup. May the brits lose all otheer games.
Fuchk. the good thing about the world cup is that you get to drink a lot of booze.

Sorry the team you just saw was the ENGLISH, not British. The other British footballing people like the Irish, Scots, and the Welsh play much much worse than the English.

I had like 5 pints of beer and a bottle of wine. I have such a headache! I still can't get over the fact that the English (ok, not british) team won. They play such bad football (ok, not soccer). All they can do is throwing the ball away. If you hate it so much, why do you go play? Become an accountant instead! I hope they are going to lose all the other games.

they weren't that bad in the run up to the world cup especially in the game against jamaica. then again, it's jamaica.
but i thought they have it in them to play a few notches higher. i was actually impressed by their teamwork then. it took me by surprise none of their players managed to score last night.

i've watched almost every match so far and at this point, i'm perplexed as to why the teams that control their matches, don't really go on to win them.
poland lost, sweden drew, then there's paraguay and also ivory coast who also lost when they played so much better against whoever they were playing.

CM is right. The English team can play and they certainly showed deft touches and sublime skill in the first 20 or so minutes. Then they lapsed into sloppiness, which allowed the Paraguayans to gain control in the middle and dictate play.
My view is that English football needs to loosen up a bit and stop being too technical. If Joe Cole, Gerrard, Crouch and Owen played with a bit more, dare I say it - Brazillian flair - we'd see an extremely good team. I was personally impressed with Crouch, whom I thought until last night, was a waste of space except for his height advantage.
Martin Tyler said it well: "England has a team of champions. We'll just have to see if we have a champion team."
Until then, it is still too early in the tournament to say who's going to be left standing towards the end.

i've always liked martin tyler as a commentator ever since i was exposed to soccer at italia 90. he's uncomparable.
i was also impressed by crouch after the jamaica game. england has this amazing ability to self-destruct at the highest level when it matters. how a team filled with so many high quality options with many more to spare can achieve this is beyond me.
however, along with holland, i'm secretly hoping england wins this world cup. it's just nice to see none of the usual suspects getting it, such is the trend in the world today with surprise teams causing upsets.

I hope England will not win the world cup, simply because the English are full of themselves. If they won they would talk about it at least until 2150. They still keep reminding everybody that they won the world cup in 1966. Brazil, Germany, Italy, etc. don't brag all the time about the world cups they won. Perhaps because these teams are actually good? They don't live in the past, but in the present and future?

I don't think we Brits brag about 1966. It's a sort of self mocking because it was so long ago that we won. I can't see England winning with the team we have, so if it's not us, I hope Brazil win - they play fun, entertaining football.

Yes, Brazil. I tell ya, I could watch that Ronaldinho play all day and not get sick of it. The bloke's just magic with the ball. You know, if they had a soccer equivalent of a Harlem Globetrotters team, he'd be in it for sure.

I think the brits go on about how we won in '66 and are going to win again in a slightly ironic way. Sadly most other nations don't understand irony and go on about that they hope England lose because they don't understand. Australia winning would be an even worse scenario To be honest there are other teams that they should be more worried about than England, and at least Brits are not smug like the French, Brazilian, German etc etc

French, Brazilian, German etc etc smug? And the British not??? What planet are you from? Never heard of snobbish? Stiff upper lip? Who do you associate this with? Well, the whole world, except the Brits, associate this with the Brits. The Brits are the most obnoxious people in the world. True, the Brazilians are proud of their football, but rightly so, and in a cool way. They know they are the best, and don't need to show off. They don't go on bragging that they won the world cup because everybody knows it. The brits don:t stop bragging, because they are afraid everybody will forget! ;D And yes, I have heard English people bragging about it. Though on the net, where the worst of humans come out! ;D

As slopshat said, it's Irony. We won in 1966 for gods sake -that's 30 years ago! Hurst scored a hat trick and it was a great game, but we haven't won since so we have a laugh about that great game 30 year ago. Loosen up a bit...

I say What World, you have issues, get over your own inferiority complex. What is wrong with saying you are going to win the cup? I am sure it is said in nearly every country who is in it, just tht you don't understand the language does not mean it has not been said? Why all the hatred against England? I would rather see England win it than Brazil or Germany. But honestly I would rather see a team that has not won it before win it. It does not matter how crap you are or how unfair it is (unless of course you use the "hand of God" or foul repeatedly, the object of the game is to get the ball in the net,
Considering England have been awarded the FairPlay Award twice is a reflection on them trying to play the game rather than penalise the opposition unfairly, so stop complaining and just enjoy the fact that it is a sport.
I bet you support Man Utd
