I need to get some swimming goggles.
Please could someone advise me how to buy a pair.
I read that you can get anti-fog but some still fog more than others; Are there any shops that let you try them on? How much should I expect to pay? Any shops have a range with "prescription" lenses? Anything else I need to know?
Many thanks!

you can. The boxes aren't sealed - at least they weren't when I bought some.

Couple of things,
1. yes, most sporting shops have goggles that also have a range of diopters like +1, +2 and so forth (semi-prescription like reading glasses).
2. If you have never used goggles before and think you need those type of lens, try borrowing plain ones and trying them in the pool first as the refraction index of the water will make everything look about 20% closer anyway, Unless you have very bad eyesight it may not be necessary.
3. Anti-fogging lenses are okay provided you don't have to pay more for them. A little spit on the inside of the lens and a quick rinse will usually more than suffice - Was a commercial diver for 15 years.

Thanks for your replies and the advice. I was looking around at Queensway Shopping Centre the other day and I dunno, I only managed to find 1 store selling goggles, although they had like 50 different sets, I sloped off because I had no clue what I was looking for.

I got my last pair from that cheapo sports shop - Why Pay More it is called, in Suntec. They are Speedo and fine for general pool use. I think they were about $30. I once saw the prescription ones in Carrefour.

Mustafas sells lots of sports equipment including swim goggles. They have regular goggles in several different brands and they have goggles with prescription lens. All hanging on a rack self service style. If you opened a box and tried them on no one would notice. Some brands have several nose pieces, the part over the nose, that are interchangeable to fit differet nose bridge sizes.
The optometrist I go to said for example if your eyesight is 4.0 then a 3.5 lens is good and a 4.0 is OK. I have the antifog coating on a pair of Arena goggles, it works better then spit. The coating scratches VERY easy, do not touch or dust a speck of it when wet. It can't be replaced or recoated. If it was all rubbed off the goggles would still work fine just not anti fog any more. The prescription goggles are worth the extra money, I LOVE mine.
Go and eat lunch in Little India then do all you shopping at Mustafas. They have it all.... take your shopping list for food, clothes, fabric, household goods, computer, electronics, CDs, DVDs and just "stuff" some of which I have never seen before.

Just don't buy watches at Mustafa. The first I bought broke within a day, I exchanged it and the second (a Seiko) broke within a week. Since it was one week old they refused to replace it, so I made my warranty work. Seiko did repair it, but after a week it was broken again. And so on for about 6 months, until I was pissed off and threw it away. A third watch I bought at Mustafa had the window fall off. Also had it repaired, but it fell off again, so I threw it away.
I wonder who these weird people are who buy Omega and Rolex at Mustafa.
A moskito killer I bought never worked (it just attracted more moskitoes). In general I would stay away from electronics at Mustafa.

I bought a cheap pair of Speedo ($12-something) goggles at RSH and they're fantastic! I didn't get the special prescription type but I can see so well with them! Wooo-hoo! Thanks everyone.
