The tour is held on the second day of the Hindu festival of Thaipusam, a two-day Hindu festival, during which devotees perform certain rituals. On the first day there is a chariot procession.
On the second day, after fasting for several weeks devotees enter a trance like state and some have their bodies pierced by metal spikes. A colourful procession then takes place with participants carrying heavy, richly decorated "k! avadis" from
Serangoon Road to the Chettiar Temple in Tank Road. Our guide Geraldene will take us to the Perumal Temple where she will explain the legends and rituals of Thaipusam and we can see preparations of the devotees. We then wander down Serangoon Road to observe the procession and enjoy the atmosphere, music, chanting and clapping of the participants. The bus then takes us to the end of the procession at the Chettiar Temple on Tank Road before finishing back at Dempsey Road.
