I know that the maid topics have been covered but I need a little advice....
1: pay agency 5000 deposit for maid 2: hire maid 3:approx: 300-600 per month 4: what about medical coverage? do we pay for her bills (dental-health)? 5: can you buy insurance for the maid
thanks

You only pay the 5K if you have to forfeit it. Agency helps you secure the guarantee 'bond'. You can insure against this event (about S$70 last time I was quoted a couple of years ago).
Monthly foreign worker levy, S$295.00
Agency will sort medical insurance (very basic and cheap, less than S$100, could probably buy better one, in practice maids get shipped off home for non emergency treatment as I hear it), work permit etc...loads of paperwork, you can do it all yourself but I didn't! Yes, you are responsible for health, dental etc. Polyclinics and HDB/Lucky Plaza type clinics are what most maids attend...much cheaper than private Gleneagles type places.
Six monthly compulsory medical costs S$30ish
What else? Passport renewal, S$350ish, work permit renewal S$150ish, flights home and back every 2 years or as and when, possibly 13th month bonus, embassy contract and rentry paperwork (if Filipina going on home leave) S$150ish.
And of course....her salary.
Many expats consider that S$1,000.00 a month for all the above is a figure to work with.

S$1000 a month? Expensive lah.
I don't have a maid. I am wondering what the 'Monthly foreign worker levy' is, and who receives the money? Is it a tax you pay to the government?

Agree with Drongo's excellent and detailed advice. I budget $1000/month too when considering food, bills etc. Don't forget the agencyy fee, anything between $400-700 for matching you with the maid, usually with one replacement within a year if she doesn't work out.
