Can anyone recommend a good part-time maid agency for the East Coast area?
Hubby and I would love to have someone help out with basic chores around the house and babysitting.
Have found that alot of places ask you to drop the child at their house or if they come to us they are quite expensive.
Our social life is non-existent until we find someone to help out.
If we offer work to someone else's live in maid is there much chance that we will get into trouble? Have had a lot of people say it's illegal.

I can unrecommend one.
I found one called FirstCare who charge $98 to find you someone & then you pay them direct $10/hr (& $12 for evenings babysitting). I put my request in & have just called back, 2 weeks later. They hadn't called me because they can't find anyone. I did ask if they could find someone who was also happy to babysit occasionally as well as clean - so perhaps that confused the issue.
I'm also on the East Coast, looking for 6 hours a week. I'm putting a message on the board of my Condo today. We've been out once since we got here in Feb & a neighbour sat but she hasn't me to sit for her so I need to find someone that I can pay so we can go out regularly.
If you just need a sitter, I've had one recommended to me but I haven't used her yet. Let me know if you're interested.

I have a part time lady who costs me $12 and hour. I hire her through these people: www.a-cubemicro.com/I am very happy with her and with them, When I was looking, I sent them an email and within a day or so they had contacted me, and she was here ironing and mopping for me with in the week! There was no upfront fee for finding her or anything, just a bill for her services once a month. I have had the same lady since we came to Singaprore, about 6 months now.

Hey budgie
Thank you, thank you & thank you for recommending the cubey people. I called this pm with my impossible dream list & I've got someone starting on Monday. Hoorah!
The Condo message board thing is a no-no. I've had loads of replies but not one of them had read the requirements. I can see how the agencies add value...

Hi mrsm2u, My pleasure! I hope you are as happy with your helper as I am with mine. I would love to hear how it goes if you get the time. (and you should now you don't have as much housework to do! ) What I also like about the "cubey people" is that they donate some of their profits to the needy and they have a range of services if needed. Good luck, and enjoy!

Oh, someone tell me that Budgie isn't the owner of "cubie" people. Gotta improve your copywriting, budgie. Way too predictable.

Please don't let this forum turn into a bitchfest too. I am SORRY if my copywriting displeased you. However if you look at my other replies to threads, you will note that I also "own" 2 Roti Prata places and a Yong Tau Foo eatery, and the junior ice hockey association. We are allowed to recommend businesses on this forum, and I have had rare exceptional service from one of them. My god, a satisfied customer in Singapore! ... must be a local promoting their own business!!

Hey Budgie
Sorry to have to update you on this one...
I now have 2 cleaners. I wanted one, Monday & Friday, 3 hours each time. I've got two, Tuesday and Friday. For the first five sessions, I had a different lady each time. The manager says that they're all cousins so it doesn't matter! To manage this, I typed up a list of chores to do which has been ignored - could be a language issue. I don't get any ironing done. The spare room (which no-one ever sees) is cleaned twice a week. I can't improve on the situation & I feel like such a loser.
I like using an agency so I think that I'll just have to find a new one.
Any ideas anyone?

I used an express cleaning service - Care Xpress - twice a week for a few months before I hired a full-timer. They'd send in 3 people and clean my house top to bottom (including ironing) in 90 mins. They were always on time and they were excellent. I'd highly recommend them. And the owner, Priscilla, is very professional.
And I am DEFINITELY not being paid for this ad.
Just another thought.

Hi Mrsm2u,
Sorry it didn't work out! I guess I must have just been lucky. Good luck with finding what you want!
