I have a three year old. We are not yet in Singapore but have heard that UWC and Tanglin are the best schools. Both have waiting lists for next year. Could anyone please advise on the the pros and cons of each school?

well i am not here yet either but have done some homework on the schools. For the 3 yo age group i would say that all of the schools were pretty good. At the upper highschool end i would look to see what subjects were offered and work out which school has the subjects choices your child likes and does well in - also sports might be an added bonus that tip the scales in what school to choose because if your children like netball or cricket they may enjoy a school that offers those sports.
The main thing that decided our school choice was distance. We wanted both the children and my husband to be able to get to and from work in a relatively short time and since work was on the east coast - we ended up opting for an east coast preschool/primary.

Just a little background might help you with your choice. Back a while Tanglin was just for juniors and primary, UWC was just a high school. Plot ratio issues (mandated by the Singapore government) forced both schools to go K1 thru K12.
Tanglin is a terrific school for small children, great teachers; good support for early learning issues and has always had great facilities. My children attended there and I would happily send them again.
We switched to UWC for high school because it had a much more established HS programme and great academic results and standards. If you are just a short term expat then that is in the future. If you are stuck on Tanglin’s waiting list then Dover Court is a pretty good school to consider until a place at Tanglin becomes available.
Hope this helps.

Hi 'need more coffee'
I live in the East Coast and have a young child at one of the East Coast schools. All the parents I know with kids at Eton House and Chatsworth (if one is your choice) seem happy with their choice. Been here 4 months and it's a nice area - hope you enjoy it. Feel free to ask any questions.

Hi Scanty - I have enrolled them in Eton House. I hope to find a condo as close as possible to the school, or one on the bus route. (I asked them to send me a copy of the bus route.) I have a 4 yo Boy and a 5 yo girl. I would love to hear about the area and places we could visit when we get there.

I have a 4 1/2 yr old at Eton House - weird if they ended up in the same class.
There are quite a few condos within walking distance to the school and the East Coast Park (all depends on your budget etc). There are also some nice condos further up towards Siglap/Bedok which would only be a short bus ride away. The main shopping center is Parkway Parade/Marine Parade - quite nice to potter around. Many (those who've never lived there) think the East Coast is far out but we can be in the city in 10/15 mins (luckily we have a car). All in all, we are quite happy with our choice. Just don't rush your condo choice - we stayed in a service apt for about 6 weeks although we hadn't made up our mind on location or schools so I guess your search is narrowed down - good luck.
