All contributions welcome - what's your bright idea for the day?
Here's my first thought:
They should have an extra lane on the express-ways for motor cycles. Only motor cycles could use that lane, and motor cycles could only use that lane. That way, you wouldn't have those idiots who putter along at 50 km/h in the centre lane, or along the lane divider, blocking two lanes at once, and preventing overtaking.
Ya, ya, I know - extra land, carbon foot-print etc - but you'd get home to your families about half an hour earlier, because there wouldn't be a traffic jam caused by idiot motor cyclists (only idiot car drivers, but that's an idea for another time)
What say you?

So the lane is for motorcyclists because some idiot car driver is blocking two lanes?
Fine with me.
But I would discourage anybody to motorcycle in Singapore. That is, anybody who doesn't want to die!

The supermarket trolleys in Cold Storage are changing from the system where you insert a $1 in a vertical slot to one where you put the coin in an horizontal tray. It is a little known fact that many of these work just as well with a 20c coin. You can abandon your trolley at the cab stand or car park secure in the knowledge that you are not squandering your, or your partners hard earned money, and are brightening the day of the auntie who returns the trolley. ;D

and are brightening the day of the auntie who returns the trolley. ;D Not after she discovers she did all that work for 20 cents, while she expected 1$! ;D

So the lane is for motorcyclists because some idiot car driver is blocking two lanes? Fine with me. No, silly dude . I'm talking about some skinny little 2cc motorcycle putt-putting along the line between two lanes, and since car drivers are supposed to treat motor cycles as though they are cars, too, that effectively blocks both lanes (if, of course, you're bothering to follow the Highway Code)

I wish supermarkets would have more refill packs (say, up to about 50% of stock, where possible). That would surely be a win-win situation for all concerned: 1) would use less plastics and packaging, so the environment benefits 2) consumers save money 3) supermarkets save money 4) supermarkets save storage space, shelf space etc (and can use it for more products) 5) producers encourage brand loyalty 6) producers save money

Take, say, the 2 hours of Friday usually located between 4pm and 6pm. These are kind of a pain as they go really slowly and nobody does any work anyway but many people still feel obliged to hang around at the work place.
Cut those hours and paste them to Monday morning, just add a bit of space for them in between 5am and 6am - anywhere, really, before the alarm bell goes off. That way, the two unproductive hours of Friday can be put into better use by giving people the extra couple of hours of sleep on Monday mornings without affecting the productivity as nobody would use them for working or getting home early anyway.

What??? I don't get it! If you put them between 5 AM and 6 AM, what would happen? I sleep until 8.30 AM every Monday anyway. As I do every day!

Hey, dude - I finally pushed your button! MC - people here don't leave the office before 8pm, because they don't want to be seen to be the first one to go home. How about - in the interests of promoting more family time, allowing people to persue more healthy hobbies and reducing pollution from traffic on the roads - encouraging flexi-time and work-from-home (where feasible, obviously)? And give up the half day working day on Saturdays, because those are worse than unproductive (used to do it myself - spent more time getting in to work and back, and then only had Sundays to do all the weekend chores; not restful).

When I moved here, we were supposed to work half day on Saturdays. Then came the new PM and scrapped the Saturday work from civil servants. Took the university almost a year to implement the change but finally they had to do it.
They still continued counting Saturdays (full day, of course) and even Sundays in some cases as used days off on holidays, though.
Weekends used to really suck. The productivity on a half day Saturday was at best infinitesimal but people were supposed to hang around at the office anyway.

I wish shopping malls here would put up more mall guides. F'rinstance, the new Vivo City has about 3 on each floor, so you have to walk miles to find them, and then they only tell you where to find (the general area) of shops on the floor you're currently on. And one of the others (United Square I think) had one that's either a fireman's plan or an architect's plan; not really helpful for finding shops. One or two others give out pamphlets - more helpful, but not at all green.
It would be an idea if mall guides were placed by lifts and escalators, and showed all the shops on all the levels.

I am in Hong Kong right now, and here all the shopping centres have nice maps displayed near the escalators.
Singapore should copy this too from Hong Kong. It is copying everything else...
As far as calling its... trains... MRT, copied from the Hong Kong's MTR...
