Hi.
Single female looking for a room to rent in Seletar Camp. I work at the airport (West Camp) and I grew up in the base.
It's my dream to live there again. Nothing comes close to what Seletar Camp has to offer.
I am a considerate, clean and tidy person. I'd like to cook occassionally.
I hope to hear from you soon.
Thanks.

Don't know how long you would be able to stay considering the new airtropolis is going to be there. From what I've heard no new leases will be given out and people will be allowed only to run out their current leases. Not sure how true that is however but sounds reasonable because they will probably raze most of the buildings. Real Bummer!

I hate it when the government plans to demolish places/buildings of historic value. Modernization in the name of progress my foot! Grrrrr............

Sweet Ol Lady & SMS I agree with you. I too found out that with the new airhub, they've sent out letters to my mates who live here informing them that in 2008, they're expected to move out. I'm very upset with this. Seletar Camp is what I call home and now they're demolishing what's left of this wonderful place, its sprawling gardens, it's wonderfully aged houses, it's friendly neighbourhood, nature, the peace and quiet, the night everything..... for more $. This was my hideaway from the ever increasing concrete jungle. I am so claustrophobic living in my flat, surrounded by other flats, having no privacy, >:(screaming kids at the playground, neighbours so close you can hear what they do daily. I don't make much money and unfortunately cannot afford my own place. Woo hoo for the job surplus but come on, some of us like it here and this is where we grew up and where it still is what it was. Personally, this feels like I'm being suffocated. Seletar is a place with NO HIGH RISE buildings and I love it like this. Depression is setting in. Till they force me out with their bulldozers, I'll enjoy Seletar for all its worth but my heart breaks.

I hate it when the government plans to demolish places/buildings of historic value. Modernization in the name of progress my foot! Grrrrr............ It's funny how Singaporeans just stay in their corner when they criticise the government, and never speak out in public or organise something like a demonstration. Why don't you organise something to save that area you love, instead of just accepting what the government has decided? Isn't the government supposed to be made up of people (i.e. you) and to serve the people (i.e. you)? In Europe (where I come from) and much of the rest of the world, people protest, sometimes rather violently, when the government wants to do something they dislike. Here people just complain, very quietly, among friends. The government has managed to create a fearful, passive population that accepts everthing. I guess people get the government they deserve? ;D

Well in Singapore we can write letters to the Forum page in The Straits Times. That's as good as it gets.

Hello...we are NOT the owners. The owners are the government! Dumb suggestion > protest.

Hi Nervous
Ah... why we complain 'quietly' among friends... because the government has the right say ALL the time. Of course as a young single person, I don't have benefits to buying my own 'cage' because I'm not 35! So I have to rent.
I do agree with what you say though. Life here would be much easier I reckon if we had a right to say what we felt our government should do for us. And have some young blood in the government.
Guess in a way it's always been that way and when people speak up, they know they will get shut down and locked up. "They" know everything and even chats in public about not agreeing with the government gets stares from the locals, like I'm not supposed to be saying that.
There is no freedom of speach. That's why some of us seek a place to vent/chat/give opinions on forums. Demonstrations will ultimately lead to being thrown in jail. How flipping strict are the laws here? Have you noticed?
Yes some of us are passive but we do have our OWN opinions that will never be heard.
ST Forum, would love to go to the papers but I know the authorities and 'them' will tell me it's not about preservation of this little nook but more the benefits of the economy.
The way things are going, parks, nature reserves, open spaces are decreasing rapidly and with my financial situation, I can't afford to rent my own place let alone leave the country.
And that's why I love Seletar Camp, the one place yet to be touched by 'them' and now here they come. I'm gutted.
My grandpa and I would eat the fruits he'd planted, the vegetables we had in our garden, the wonderful sunday picnics in our back yard, with our dogs and extended families, the tree house he built for us, the sunset bike rides to the airport. Personally, these are cherished memories that I hold very dear to me.

You can try Castle Green, it is very near to Seletar. The rental is very affordable too.
